Please Pray for Freedom for William Martinez
A good, honest, and dedicated El Salvador official
has been wrongfully accused and brought to DC Jail

The Honorable William Martinez - a man widely known for his good nature, generosity, and kindness - was elected to the Congress of El Salvador in 2000.  He is a religious man, and helped implement National Bible Day.  He is a man of peace, and voted against sending El Salvador troops to Iraq.

William is a devoted family man, with two daughters who live in San Salvador, the capital city of El Salvador.  He was a broker for Century 21 Real Estate, and owned rental property, including a hotel.  He rented a water front property, and two boats to a group of men who told him that they would be fishing.  The men were actually drug smugglers using the boats to pick up cocaine from Colombia.

When they were caught, they lied and claimed that William was the organizer.  He was not involved, but the property and boats were in his name.  For agreeing to testify against William, the smugglers received reduced jail time.  The US let smugglers go free, but jailed an innocent man.

The El Salvador police were still investigating the case, and had no evidence to arrest William.  But US agents for the Drug Enforcement Agency arrested him and flew him to the Washington DC jail in November 2003.  He was cut off from his funds, and unable to hire an attorney.   Like Daniel in the Lion's Den, he is helping inmates to read and attend church services.  Such a man should be free.
